The popular Joomla administrative tool, Admin Tools, has been updated to include new features and address issues from the previous release, 2.2.a2. This extension allows Joomla website administrators the ability to perform certain back end tasks such as, "fix your files' and directories' permissions, protect your administrator directory with a password, change your database prefix, and set a secure Super Administrator ID." While this is an Alpha release, the developer has stated that this version is "stable enough for every day use." They go on to say that, "it's the only version of Admin Tools which you can use on a Joomla! 2.5 site." To put the community at ease, they note that they are using this new Alpha release on their own production site.

If you are using Akeeba's other extensions, check to see that all versions are compatible with each other for the version of Joomla that you are running. For instance, the Akeeba website includes this notice:

"IMPORTANT! If you are also using Akeeba Subscriptions 2.x on your site, please make sure that you have installed Akeeba Subscriptions 2.0 Stable or later before installing Admin Tools 2.0.a1 or later. Older versions of Akeeba Subscriptions can cause Admin Tools to fail and bring your site down."

Akeeba offers a free download of Admin Tools along with a support forum which you can access through several levels of support subscription. They also offer Professional releases of Admin Tools and most of their other extensions.
